Our Vision at Helensburgh and Stanwell Park is to:

Glorify God by Making Disciples; who:
  • Grow in Love For Jesus
  • Serve His People - The Church
  • Share Christ With The Lost
  • Listening to God in His Word By His Spirit
  • Depending on God in Prayer
  • The following explains this a little more:

Glorify God

At Helensburgh and Stanwell Park Anglican church we believe that the world is all about God. Everything, including human beings are here to glorify God. This is, if you like, the meaning to all of life. God has created the world for his glory and sent his Son Jesus into the world to die for sinful man to glorify himself. Not only that, he sends the promised Holy Spirit to be with us as his people, and to help us act as his people in the world. As a result, we desire that our church reflect the values of God himself, that we glorify Him in all we do. We want to make a difference in 2508 and in this world for the glory of God. We want people to glorify God, know and trust Jesus and receive the Spirit of God.

By Making Disciples

As such, we have been thinking of how we might glorify God best and have been reminded of Jesus’ final word to the disciples:

And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
We believe we are called as God’s people, and therefore as a church to make disciples of Christ, wherever we go.

We are to make disciples by bringing them to Jesus for the first time, and we are to make disciples by teaching those who have trusted Jesus to continue to grow in love and obedience to him.

This means that at Helensburgh and Stanwell Park Anglican we are Great Commission People. We take the great commission of Jesus in Matthew 28 and endeavour to have this shape our lives and everything we do.

As we go and make disciples, we believe that we ought to reflect God’s priorities for us as human beings. Once, without Jesus, we could not please God. Now, through his Holy Spirit we can please him and live with the mindset and characteristics he wants us to have.

The character of disciples, is that we wish want to grow more like Jesus in 2508, and this character has a three branched direction, based on this passage of Scripture from Matthew 22:

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
This, which we once could not keep, we can now strive for in the power of the Holy Spirit. And this verse teaches that disciples are relational people.

Grow in Love For Jesus

In order to love God, we remember that the Bible tells us that Jesus is the image of the invisible God, and that the work of God is to believe in the one he has sent, the Lord Jesus. So we want to be people who grow in love for God through Jesus in every possible way. We want to live for him, love like him, and begin (in God’s power) to have lives that reflect his priorities.

Loving our neighbour has two dimensions. It involves loving those who know Jesus and are members of his church, and those who are lost without Jesus. We wish to love both groups biblically.

Serve His People - The Church

We wish to be people who are committed to the local church, serving the body of Christ in this place. We want to be people who use the gifts given to us by God to build up and encourage the body of Christ to grow in Jesus more and more. We want to use what we have been given to help people grow in their discipleship with Jesus.

Share Christ With The Lost

We believe that the best way to love the world is to introduce them to the saving love and mercy of Jesus. The message of his death and resurrection is the good news for all mankind to go from death to life, from condemnation to salvation. We want to serve and love our community in all sorts of ways, especially through sharing the saving message of Jesus with all whom we meet. We believe this to be the most loving thing a Christian can do for those who do not know Jesus.

So, we wish want to be Great Commission People, who have a Great Commandment Mindset. And yet we realise that all of this is under the authority and sovereign hand of God.

As such, we want to express our dependence upon God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit through:

Listening to God in His Word by His Spirit

We believe one of the ways we practically show that God is in control of the world and the fact that he is our authority is by listening to him in his word. As such, the Bible plays a central part in our gatherings and events. We also believe that the Bible is simply a book if not inspired and illuminated by the Holy Spirit’s work as we read it.

Depending on God in Prayer

We believe that a key way of showing our dependence on God is to be constantly speaking to him in prayer. If it is true that we are completely dependent on God for our salvation, and for everything else, then it stands to reason that we ought to plead with him, speak with him and call upon him to pour out his grace on us as we seek to glorify him in the world by making disciples of Jesus.
